Our Historic Dayton Flight!

EAA says our planes were the "...stars of the show!" We are thrilled with the prestigious recognition received from the Experimental Aircraft Association during their coverage of our trip. You can view the wonderful article they wrote on their News & Events webpage (click here for the article). Also, EAA photographers Tom Beech and Hal Bryan took some wonderful pictures of the historic event (click here to view their photos).

On September 18, 2009 our museum made its mark in history by flying 3 WW-I replica aircraft on an epic 1,000 mile journey from Platte Valley Air Park, Colorado to Wright Field, Dayton Ohio. While in Dayton, our planes were featured attractions at the National Museum of the United States Air Force WW-I fly-in.

video video Blog Please view the video about our historic Dayton trip as well as a video on the Vintage Aero Flying Museum. We also invite you to visit our Blog that covered day-to-day events as we prepared for and embarked on our historic Dayton trip.

The Museum’s 3 aircraft (all full-size replicas) which flew to Dayton are the Fokker D-VII, The Fokker D-VIII and the Fokker Dr.1. Flown by Dan Murray, Andrew King and Mark Holliday respectively, this epic flight will be the subject of a full length documentary film by Emmy award winning director/producer Art Annecharico. Check back on our website for details on the film's release (probably next spring).

By stopping at grass landing strips across the heartland of America, these modern day Fly Boys were the news-of-the-day for many towns along the route. Our blog covered the outstanding greetings our crews received as they shared the history of our aircraft, their construction and engineering and the history and personalities of the WW-I Aces who flew these aircraft.

Once again, please be sure to check into our blog and read the accounts and back story of these pilots and their flying adventures as they traveled, open cockpit, through all kinds of weather and endured the trials and tribulations of flying these demanding aircraft!
